Chapter 14

Carried into a cave on the far side of Greystone Ridge, Jess curved her arm around the back of Ryder’s neck. With the other hand, she stroked the strange markings tattooed on his chest. When her fingers bumped the chain he wore, his arms stiffened around her, and he pulled her tighter against him.

“From someone in your past?” She breathed in the tunnel’s smells of dampness and dirt. Face buried in his neck, she welcomed his masculine musk and fingered the tiny links of the chain.

“Tonight is about the present. The now.” His words grounded out in a harsh clip.

Deep in her belly, desire stirred. Oh, how she wanted this man.

Just a yard or so in, moonlight lost its grip and darkness folded around them. Robbed of her vision completely, Jess sighed and placed her hand on the middle of his chest.

If only her touch revealed the workings of a man’s mind.

Even though he held her in his strong, capable arms, an odd sense of loneliness blanketed her. “Maybe you should set me down now,” her tone held a sharpness that surprised her, “and, uh, let me walk.”

“As you wish.” He released her legs so that she slid down the contours of his muscled torso and legs.

All muscle. Buffed to the max. As their crotches met, she searched the pitch blackness with her gaze. Breath caught in her upper chest, she managed an exhale. No words made it out, but then again, what did she have to say?

Underground, as if they were the last couple on earth, only the two of them existed. A raw sexual charge practically crackled in the dankness around them.

Once her feet reached chilled granite, a shiver trailed up her body. Instead of pushing her away, as she expected so they could continue on, he wrapped his arms about her. “My body temperature runs low, so I doubt any shared warmth will comfort you. Instead, I’ll light some torches, build a campfire. Follow me, I’ll clear the way.” The sound of rocks kicked aside preceded him. “The tunnel narrows, so you’ll need to follow close behind.”

As he led her farther below the ground, rock scrapped her hips and shoulders at times, and the temperature plunged. Wrapped in total blackness, she reached out. Her fingertips met with solid flesh. With much curiosity and unexpected boldness, she grinned and caressed the chiseled, denim-gloved shape of his rear. With faint moan and much passion spreading below her waist, she gloved his butt cheek with her hand.

“Tell me, M’lady Willowbrook. Liking what you find in the dark?”

Fingers curled, she pulled her hand back. Giggling, she reached out again. She palmed and squeezed the sleek flex of his butt cheek. “Oh yes. I am so enjoying what I’ve discovered.”

“You are unlike any other woman that I’ve ever met.” In the narrow space, he turned about to face her in a quick spin.

Aware that his impressive erection most likely waited just ahead, Jess, her cheeks hot, pulled back her hand once again.
